Village Gathering: Working Parents Act on Surgeon General's Advisory
With the invention of Zoom we can thrive, not just survive, together.
Hey Rule Breakers,
A bit of a different note from me today to share an upcoming Rule Breaker event.
I’m still reeling from the U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory on parental health and well-being.
It’s crazy that the same office that called out the dangers of smoking and opioids is now highlighting how parenting is harming our health.
The one job that's essential for human survival is hurting us. NBD.
The TLDR if you missed last weeks post is that we're overstressed, worried about money, and working longer hours - both paid and unpaid. And that’s not great for our mental health or well-being (obvi).
There's a lot that needs to change - better childcare, community programs, you name it.
The biggest change the U.S. Surgeon General is calling for: valuing caregiving in our culture.
That is going to take time.
So, what can we do while waiting for the world to catch up?
We rally.
We can shift our own mindsets about how we value caregiving, the pressures we put on ourselves, and our expectations as working parents.
And the best part: we can do this together. Because if there's one thing we know as parents, it takes a village.
Want to be part of this village? Want to learn how we can thrive, not just survive, as parents? Join us on September 26. We'll explore how to thrive, not just survive, as working parents.
Together, we've got this.
Keep well,
J
