Welcome to Rule Breaker by me, Jess Weisz.
Early on in school I realized there were certain things I had to do to get good grades:
Sit quietly.
Participate when the teacher asked a question (especially when no one else raised their hands so the teacher didn’t feel discouraged)
Figure out a special little flourish in each assignment to wow the teacher (I once attached a dead bee in a plastic baggie to a report on bees. I was that kid.)
It was a game - not as fun as Tetherball in those days - but a game nonetheless with rules that determined the winners and losers. As long as I followed the rules I would get top marks.
Fast forward and I see our whole world as governed by these explicit and implicit rules. Only I also see how the rules are stacked against many of us and that just makes me angry.
Case in point: it’s an unwritten rule at work that long hours are needed to succeed. But what the heck is the single mother who can’t afford a nanny supposed to do to rise at work?
So it’s from here that I’ll shout at the world in hopes that some people listen and start changing the rules in the game of life.
Join me in by subscribing. I hope to get you as fired up as I am!
And tell your friends - let’s make it a real party game!
